Hezekiah Beers Pierrepont (1790-1838) established a prosperous mercantile firm engaged in international trade and commerce. After dissolving the firm, he turned to the acquisition and exploitation of land, buying up large tracts of land, one of which became most of Brooklyn Heights and Boerum Hill in New York City. Pierrepont, named for its proprietor Hezekiah B[eers] Pierrepont, was formed in 1818. Hezekiah Pierrepont (1768-1838) resided in New Haven, Connecticut and then Brooklyn, New York where he had a distillery and real estate. He made annual visits to his land holdings in Lewis County, New York. In 1802 he married Anna Maria the daughter of William Constable.
